Environmental Care Policy
CPI Group Ltd is committed to do all we can to help to care for the environment. The focus of our efforts comes under three headings: Reuse, Recycle and Reprocess.
Reuse
In our day to day operations we consistently try to reuse anything that we can. For instance, when you buy a system from us we will send any accessories and manuals to you in a box that came from our one of our suppliers – in most cases we reuse the carton that came with your motherboard. If we need to send you any screws and fittings, we will send them in reused bags, and if we need to send defective components back to our suppliers, we reuse cartons and boxes that came to us from a supplier.
We only buy in two sorts of packaging: Outer cartons and buffer fill. We originally used to send out computers in the cardboard box that the system case came in, but some customer’s systems were damaged in transit, so we needed to buy in outer packaging to protect the systems in transit. But wherever possible we buy cartons containing a high proportion of recycled material. Also, don’t be surprised if your system arrives in a used outer carton. To help care for the environment we reuse old cartons wherever possible.
In packing our systems, we try to reuse buffer fill that came from our suppliers, so don’t be surprised if you find your system buffered with an assortment of eccentrically shaped foam, air fill and paper packaging. Put it down to reuse. Our main buffer fill is either expanded foam loose fill or air filled cushions. These two fillers both have very low disposal volume and therefore very low impact on landfill disposal if this is required.
Recycle
Buying in components as we do, we receive a large amount of packaging from our suppliers. Regrettably much of it we cannot reuse, so it goes out in the waste, but wherever possibly we send it for recycling. At a rough estimate: 25% of the packaging we receive is reused – mainly as packaging for our customers and for returns to our suppliers; 50%, mainly cardboard, is recycled; the remaining 25% mainly plastics and composites goes to waste, but we are trying to reduce this element in whatever way we can.
Reprocessing

When you buy a system from us, we recommend that you have your old system reprocessed rather than just dropping it in the bin.
Under EU regulations and due to the possibility that any electrical or electronic equipment may contain hazardous substances that may be injurious to the environment or to human health, all electrical equipment (even for instance your old toaster) has now to be treated as hazardous waste. The WEEE regulations (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) aim to minimise the disposal of EEE as unsorted municipal waste and to achieve a high level of collection of WEEE for treatment, recovery and environmentally safe disposal. We each have an important roll to play in this effort by our contributing to the safe disposal of our EEE, including your old system
You will find a crossed out wheelie bin symbol on the case of the system we have assembled for you. This is intended to remind you to dispose of it with care at a properly authorised disposal facility and not to dispose of it as household waste. This level of care should also be used in the disposal of your old system.
Your local authority will have a recycling collection facility where you can drop off your old system for recycling. Alternatively you have the option to return your old system to us for reprocessing. We will then send it on to a reprocessing facility for disposal. There are just a few simple rules about this:
1. You need to send your system back to us within 28 days of receiving your new system.
2. You can only send us something that is the functional equivalent to whatever you bought from us. Your old Intel 286 system is fine but we cannot accept your old television as a like-for-like equivalent. Also we can only accept items for disposal on a one for one basis.
3. We offer the return of your old system on a local basis, probably through the same courier who delivered your new system to you. But just as you needed to pay for the new system to be sent to you, you will need to cover the cost of the old system being sent to us. Please contact us if you want us to arrange this for you by emailing to aftersales@computerplanet.co.uk. Alternatively you can use any courier of your choice. Naturally there is no charge for us disposing of the old system for you, and there is no need for it to be working when it arrives. It only needs to survive in sufficiently good condition for it to find us and for us to understand who it is from and what you want us to do with it.
